Yeah, I’m Alive

I’ve been terribly amiss in updating my blog, but there’s a reason.

The short answer is that I haven’t done much worth reporting.

The long version is that this winter has been painfully hard on me.  I fell into a serious funk and it’s been hard breaking away from it.  I’ve come back here a few times, but I haven’t done anything adventurous in the kitchen in quite some time, so there was nothing to tout.

But that’s about to change.

Last year, you may recall that I spent a collection of Sundays preparing meals from vintage cookbooks.  I’m strongly considering doing that again because . . . well, just because.  My problem last year was that I wanted to make everything look like it was period exact – I can’t count the number of vintage dishes and accessories I purchased just for the photos I took, or just to make it look original.  It was a waste of money – I mean, a 1956 dinner plate didn’t make the food taste any better, but it did make my pocketbook leaner.

The plan this time,  therefore, is to ignore the Betty Crocker style pics and do what I’d set out to do – make a decent meal.  I’ve got one cookbook in particular that I’m focusing on now, but I’ll need to thoroughly examine it before I say any more.  I’m also going to lean more towards what I’d set out to do with this blog: incorporate some non-food topics – historical ones, chiefly, since that’s my stock in trade.  Maybe I’ll tie them all together . . .

In any case, look for this blog to start getting active shortly.  As in “within two weeks” shortly.  Don’t know where it’ll all end up, but hopefully, it’ll be better here than it’s been!
