Seeking My Creativity Groove

Since I had nothing better to do, I figured that I’d check my bookshelf for that vintage cooking series that I mentioned earlier.  At the very least, I could go through it and see if there was anything worth preparing. The short answer is nope.  Nothing in them that I would cook, let alone eat,…

Feed Me!

I chose not to sleep. Yeah, I know; I didn’t want to throw off my sleep schedule, especially since that’s becoming a joke as it is.  So I stayed up and tackled some of that work I’d been complaining about.

The only thing positive about this recent heat spike is that it’s allowed me to consider the various texts I might consult for that literary dinner them that I’d mentioned previously.

Yeah, I’m Alive

I’ve been terribly amiss in updating my blog, but there’s a reason. The short answer is that I haven’t done much worth reporting. The long version is that this winter has been painfully hard on me.  I fell into a serious funk and it’s been hard breaking away from it.  I’ve come back here a…

Looking Ahead

Well, 2013 is nearly over, and yet another year is upon us.

Wheat, Anyone?

I tried those Settlement Biscuits again, but this time using wheat flour.  Nice, but . . . I think I’ll reserve those for special events.  A wheat biscuit isn’t something that I’d have around for casual eating.  Still, it was interesting to try it.  Of course, your mileage may vary . . .

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Plateful of Biscuits

I want to wish everyone out there a Merry Christmas (or, if you don’t celebrate, a Happy Holiday season)! It’s been a short while since I’ve posted, but that’s because of the hustle-and-bustle of the season. Now that it’s pretty much over, I’m hoping to turn an eye back towards cooking and visiting antique stores. …

Stuffed Biscuits, 1972

A long time ago – the autumn of 1972, to be exact, my elementary class went to the circus.  We were gone nearly the entire day and the only thing that those teachers thought to bring for three dozen or so first and second-graders were the individual bags of M&Ms – no other food.  When…

Assessing the Great Experiment

I thought that I could master that last vintage meal for March, but between the drama that is work and a few personal issues (including a really irritating visit to my doctor’s office – don’t ask), I wasn’t able to even put together a decent menu, let alone do any cooking.

Vintage Sundays – Lunch, c. 1960

This entry is mid-century.  Truth be told, I’m surprised that it took me this long to get to this point as I like mid-century culture, and it just seemed like a natural that I’d pull out one of those cookbooks and craft some entre that would emote nothing but 1950s Rat Pack style coolness.  Well, let…

Uh-Oh

I may have to put off this week’s vintage dinner because I’ve been under the weather.  I barely got any sleep last night, and given the way my insides feel, I don’t know that I’m going to down much more than the three cups of coffee I’ve had for breakfast. At this point, therefore, I’m…

Vintage Sundays – Dinner, c. 1940

Apologies for the late update; this week has certainly been a hectic one!  The main reason I didn’t write about Sunday’s meal was that it actually happened on Monday. Still smarting over the letdown of my first venture into large-scale vintage cooking, I decided to play thing a little safer than I’d originally planned.  In…
