Back to Work

In the last month, school has started and I’ve slowly adapted to my “new normal.” Summer breaks are nice, but they’re largely “work at your own pace and on your own schedule,” so for someone like me who’s essentially a night owl (I love working at night), it’s hard to adjust back to the standard…

Be Cool

The end of the term has arrived, so why am I in such a funky mood? Last evening, I felt some painful pressure on my lower jaw, near the point of my chin.  It feels like an abscess, but I’m not certain.  I’ve got some pain in my lower lip and I can’t tell if…

Getting Ready

Ever just wish that you could disconnect your arms from your body before bed?  You know, just unplug them from your torso, place them on the bedroom dresser, and have a good night’s rest? No? Then clearly you don’t know the wonderment one experiences when you’ve awakened and learned that you’ve spent the entire night…

Cheeseburger Soup

With all of the activity surrounding Baby Sis, I neglected to mention that I finally made that Cheeseburger Soup I’d been craving. You’d think that with a new kitchen, I’d be just a blur in there, whipping up a host of new dishes and desserts.  Well, no.  It’s been three weeks now and we still…

Another Wednesday

I am trying to assess where today falls insofar as the “Good Day/Bad Day” grading system is concerned.  It’s been an overwhelming day, to say the least. The Little Woman and I are having renovations done at home.  Well, one room – the kitchen – to be exact.  This is not something that I wanted,…

Cooking in Old Creole Days

Each year, the campus library sells off antiquated and withdrawn texts.  This serves two purposes – to generate funds for future purchases, and to give new homes to books that would otherwise sit in silence on a shelf forever.  Most libraries do this, and it’s always interesting to see what books make the cut (to be…

Seeking My Creativity Groove

Since I had nothing better to do, I figured that I’d check my bookshelf for that vintage cooking series that I mentioned earlier.  At the very least, I could go through it and see if there was anything worth preparing. The short answer is nope.  Nothing in them that I would cook, let alone eat,…

Friendship and Food

On Friday, I received a surprise visit from one of my favorite former students.  She’s off attending graduate school and returned to the area for personal business; she thought enough of me to stop by and show her face. I’m glad she did.

A New Favorite

Today is the first day in a while where I genuinely feel good.  Minor pain and discomfort, but nothing significant, and I’m very thankful for that.

The Greatest Thing Ever

Need chopped veggies for your dish but aren’t interested in buying up the produce section at the local grocer’s?  Well, Birds Eye has something in the freezer section that you might want to check out.

Another “Why didn’t I think of that before” chapter in my life, this time concerning dessert.

A Tasty Experiment

I love sweet potato pie. In truth, I love sweet potatoes in general.  But especially in a nice, warm, fresh pie.
